Exercising aspect

You should initially start strengthening your middle vocal range.  The common primary aim of numerous students is to ceaselessly try to enhance their high notes.   Try to feel satisfied with singing high notes lightly in the beginning, and proceed to a moderate range of power after some time.  Power always comes hand in hand with quality.  If you use your voice with caution and avoid forcing it out, you voice will grow.

Be it low, middle or high notes in technical work, you should always make it a point to try to produce the notes with ease.  The sign that shows the application of a wrong method or action, or unconscious forcing is the feeling and the sound of strain in one's voice.  Any physical trainers out there will not give a beginner heavy weights to lift at the  beginning; they help to develop the muscles first using easy, flexible exercises, followed by the demand of strength and endurance. It is the same for the voice. When followed meticulously you will reap the benefits.

On the other hand, when high notes are correctly produced, it is the matter of skill instead of strength that really counts.  Contrary to popular belief, high notes need less actual expenditure of breath than low ones.  But the high note needs more physical support that braces the abdominal muscles and diaphragm.  This helps to take strain off the throat, leaving it unconstrained and free.

To achieve your goal of learning how to sing high notes, the most important rule is patience. You have to learn to walk before you learn to run.  For beginners and amateurs, approximately 15 minutes of vocal work and exercise twice a day is enough.  Singers who are more experienced and have better training can proceed to practice for about 20 minutes two or three times a day.  When you are in top form then an hour of practice with sufficient rest periods is good for you.  One thing to keep in mind is to never wear out your vocal chords by practicing for long hours with too much force.  Even if the method of practicing the singing of high notes is correct, you can't have too much of a good thing.
